This is an Adopt a Shelter Pet Mug, a 15-ounce ceramic mug featuring the image of Bindi Su, the Australian Shepherd from the 44–cent Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet special stamps.
Bindi Su was born into the Aussie Rescue & Placement Helpline (ARPH) rescue program. Bindi Su’s mom was only one year old and already pregnant with her second litter when her owner decided to give her up for adoption rather than have to deal with another litter of puppies. At the time one of the animal control officers was the rep for ARPH.
When the pups were born, pictures of the one-day-old pups were posted for the reps to see. She instantly fell in love and knew that tiny little Bindi Su would one day be hers. When the pups were eight weeks old, transport was arranged for the mom and two pups to come from North Carolina to Connecticut. Bindi Su became the animal control officer’s new best friend and now goes to work at Animal Control everyday. Her mom and brother were placed in two other local homes.
Bindi Su is a very athletic dog and loves to compete in agility events and Dock Diving competitions. She also loves to go on her weekly visits to the local nursing home, where her biggest fans live, and can't wait for her visits. Bindi Su and her dog friends bring a lot of joy into the residents’ lives, including putting on an agility and trick show for them twice a year.
ARPH is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless Australian Shepherds and re-homing them to families that understand the temperament and energy level of this intelligent breed. ARPH also helps educate the public on the breed.
